Johnny Cleary is Hiroki Ishiyama's best friend. He is in the same grade as Hiroki and has a big crush on Yumi. He and Hiroki are great lockpickers, as shown in Hot Shower.
He is always trying to think of ways to win over Yumi. In the episode The Pretender, Ulrich advised him to follow Yumi around all the time. Yumi did not like this at all, and became angry with Ulrich for doing such a thing. However, after a return to the past, Ulrich got a chance to make up for his mistake, and Yumi and Johnny got along better in the end.
In the episode Skidbladnir he persuaded Hiroki to help Yumi and her friends, but Hiroki quickly told him that he had no chance against Ulrich at winning Yumi's heart.

- In the Polish version of the show, he was voiced by Joanna Pach-Żbikowska.
- He is the only male character to be voiced by a female actor in the Latin American Spanish version.
- He is one of the youngest fans of the show Hospital of Horrors, as evidenced by The Pretender.
